Obituary for Aretha Mabel Brown Yeates

Aretha Mabel Brown Yeates, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away at her home at the Bickford Apartment on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at age 93.
Aretha was born on November 26, 1924, in Nevada, Missouri, to Oscar James Brown and Maude Hendry Brown. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1942 and moved to Independence, MO where she helped in the war effort at the Lake City Munitions Plant. On April 11, 1944, she married Richard Thomas Yeates, in Independence, MO. The celebrated 70 years of marriage before his death in 2014. To this union was born Terresa Ann Yeates Etter (David) of Williamsburg, KY, Thomas Richard Yeates (Brenda) of Raytown, MO, and Connita Ellen Yeates Fain (Frank) of Farmington, MO.
Aretha was baptized into the Avola Baptist Church (Sheldon, MO) in 1943. She attended the Sterling Acres Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO. She loved her husband, children, extended family, and is remembered as a very kind, selfless and caring person.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters. She leaves 3 children, 10, grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as special nieces and nephews.
We also want to thank all those from Interim Healthcare and Bickford, who helped care for our Mom/Grandma/GiGi in this last year. You were always a bright spot in her day and we are so grateful.
It was Aretha’s wish to be cremated with a memorial service at a later date. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside memorial service for both Richard and Aretha Yeates at 10:00am on June 2, 2018, at the Rider-Fairview Cemetery of Rich Hill, MO. Condolences may be sent to the McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home Website. Memorial gifts may be given to the Rider-Fairview Cemetery, c/o Bill Perky, 223 East Chesnut, Rich Hill, MO.
